ABOUT DREW
Drew was born in sunny Los Angeles and raised in the four season climate of Chicago, Illinois. As a child, Drew was fascinated by Chicago’s severe thunderstorms and unpredictable weather. That intrigue continued throughout his high school years. In 2013, he graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School and enrolled in the meteorology program at Penn State University.

Drew purchased a drone with money he earned from his WGN internship. He used drone video footage in a climate documentary called Our Great State – a five-part series of Pennsylvania’s commonwealth. After becoming a certified FAA drone pilot, Drew began using aerial video in his weather broadcasts at KCWY. This visual depiction of weather enriched each forecast and provided the viewer with a better understanding of the weather beyond the numbers. His last year in Wyoming he won Best Weather at the 2019 Wyoming Association of Broadcasters. Also in 2019, Drew moved to Huntington, WV to become a weekday meteorologist for WSAZ News Channel 3.

Drew’s Penn State on-air programming career included: Campus Weather Service, Weather Or Not (locally aired weekly weather program), and PSU’s Live Broadcast Team, an on-campus organization that produced live area broadcasts to provide students and local area residents warnings when severe weather developed.
He also joined Penn State’s Weather World, a local 15-minute daily broadcast featuring Penn State professors. Drew held a number of positions at Weather World including graphic creator, floor director, and camera operator. These activities provided him an opportunity to develop and report live, in-studio weather forecasts and gave Drew a greater understanding of the complexities involved in a broadcast production.

At WSAZ Drew has become very active in local community events and loves meeting his viewers in person when he gets the chance. He has also picked up the fulfilling act of becoming a foster parent for the local animal shelter. To date, Drew has fostered over 40 dogs, many of which find great homes in the local community. He loves helping dogs who have never seen a friendly face in their life readapt to normal life then find them a forever home.
